Crossroads Resource Center believes that no one in our community should experience hunger, homelessness or hopelessness. Our mission is to help put a FACE on poverty, to feed, advocate, clothe and educate those in need and to do so with dignity and respect. Crossroads Resources provide a welcoming place where oppurtunities are provided to meet immediate and long-term goals and to foster independence. We firmly believe that when you give people a hand, they will extend theirs in turn.
How we got started:
Crossroads is a non-profit organization. Crossroads Ministries Resource Center was established in 1991 by Brenda Davis. She has dedicated her life to trying to end hunger in Maine. Now with the help of Keith Whitmore together they are trying to make that a reality. They know that they can never truly end hunger, but they are trying to desperately feed as many families as they can. With their dedication and hard work they are providing food to about 680 families a month. They also provide multiple services to the community as well. Crossroads provides assistance with Utility bills, clothing, furniture, household goods, personal items, coats for kids, and just this year have become a site for Toys for Tots. Crossroads works closely with many other agencies to provide support to families in need.
Our facilitie is run mostly be volunteers. we accept volunteers for programs like Aspire and Able. We also are a site where community service can be served. we have volunteers of all ages working for us. So if you want to give back to the community then come join our team of volunteers.
Many universities and schools in the area help with food drives. Old Town High School also has a program that lets high school kids come in and volunteer their time with us. They do most of their volunteering around the holidays helping with Thanksgiving baskets and then again with our Toys for Tots program. They help us organize and set up our tables by age, and its nice to get their input on what the younger generation is interested in. Its always a pleasure to have them here with us.
